How to request a health card? All useful information on the document

The health card is one of the most important documents for the citizen: for years now it has been distributed in the classic credit card format, that is a plasticized magnetic card. This is the free document that allows access to the services provided by the National Health System and allows the State to monitor spending in the sector. The health card contains the personal data of the person to whom it refers, its tax code in clear and in bar code format, the expiration date valid for healthcare purposes, as well as a free space for any regional data plus three characters in Braille code for the blind.

It is necessary to be in possession of the health card to carry out all the tasks in terms of health benefits : for example, when you go to the general practitioner or the pediatrician, when booking an exam in a laboratory of analysis , when you buy drugs for which you can deduct your spending from the IRPEF, to get a specialist visit to the ASL or in hospital and in other cases in which you take advantage of health services.

In any case, the card has the same validity as the Fiscal Code and can be used to document it.

When the ASL communicates the assistance data to the revenue agency, the Health Card is automatically produced and sent to the address of residence that appears at the Tax Registry . From the time of issue, the document is valid for 6 years and after expiration it is not necessary to request a new one: the card is automatically produced and sent to all the subjects with active health assistance.

Each citizen can check the status of his health card online on the portale.gov.it, thanks to the application "To see the status of my health card".
